THE LAST DAY

December 31st, the last day of 2024.

Didn’t we just start the year not too long ago on January 1st? Weren’t (pronounced as “wernt”. However, the word is pronounced as “wer-rent” by multiple people. Cringe!) we just getting the hang (not hangover from the new year’s eve celebrations [for some people]) of new year? Some may still be recovering from the festivities of the new year.

Then, new year’s resolutions with an overflow of promises by people that they will stick to their new year’s resolutions – whatever they may be. Many would have been lip promises to be hip and with the crowd, not wanting to be left out from the “rah! rah! rah!”

The first week of the year went by, and many would have not started on those promises(?) they made to themselves in front of their families, friends, work colleagues and others. They would have said and thought, “There’s still plenty of time, no rush. Relax, brother. Chill!

Then, there would have been many who did start. They were enthusiastic about their plans and goals, most probably driven by the idea that their family and friends had started on their plans. However, after a while…a period of time… they lost steam and gave up on their resolutions. Their excuse…er… reason would be they were not motivated enough.

The serious-ers. They took commitment to their new year’s resolutions, seriously. These are people whose goals could be tangible like, clearing their credit card debt or becoming more financially prudent by reducing their overall financial expenditure. Their goals could have included doing something to make their lives more stress free. And  the list goes on. Along the way, they may not have cleared their major goals. They planned, and worked hard. However, they did not quite make it, cross the line. However (again), they are much better off than when they first begun at the beginning of the year. That itself is an achievement of sorts.

The go-getters are those who achieved all or most of their major goals. Kudos! They ran a good race, were focused and may not have faced unusual circumstances. They were super focused. 👏🏻👏🏻 We definitely can learn from them.

The question you may ask me is, “Where do I stand or which group did I fall into this year?” I am in the “serious-ers” category. My three main goals were:
. Write my book. Written. I have just received the draft today for proof-reading before going to print. Yes, the book will be out in book stores soon. I am superly excited. Stay tuned.
. Bring my weight down from 75kg to 63kg. As of 1.00pm today, I am at 69.2kg. I consider this a big achievement as my weight initially crossed 78kg, though I was exercising almost daily.
I then cut lunch out on most days, reduced the size of each meal and watch my intake of sugar even further. I made sure I did 15,000 steps every day… well, almost every day. The results are showing.
. Curb expenses. Most people can relate to this. The cost of living continues to escalate. So, we must become more prudent. We all just have to do our homework and reduce spending. Those with extra funds each month, can put some by for savings and some for investment.

I thank all those people who have supported and cheered me on in achieving my goals and news year’s resolutions.

For 2025, I will continue with the three 2024 resolutions and aim to complete them in the coming year.

Likewise, for those of us who did not accomplish our resolutions or even start them, take heart. Start again. The results should matter most to you – you are answerable only to yourself. Have fun!
