RETURNING HOME FROM PASAR SENI (CENTRAL MARKET)

Part 2. Continued from: http://leatherpotato.com/2023/09/13/an-afternoon-at-central-market/

As we started to make our way back to Subang Jaya, we decided to exit the building from the area where all the art shops were and go around it on the right, to see the shoplots that were in that area. We thought we’d have a coffee at the Indian restaurant in that row of shops. While walking past these shoplots, we came across “Nala”…

Nala is a ladies’ fashion outlet. I noticed that they had a “cafe” sign just inside the shop. As far as I remember, I thought there was an Indian restaurant around here before. Maybe, they converted their business to an upmarket ladies’ department store. It certainly did add value to Central Market or vice versa. However, they did seem to compliment each other’s business somewhat.

Jeannie, lining up to place our coffee order. The decor was very pleasing.

Just inside the store, at their main large glass display window, were a couple of garden tables with two chairs to each table. I thought it was really a nice touch to be able to sit at these tables, drink coffee, have a couple of pastries, and watch “the world go by”. However, to order the drinks and pastries, and make payment; we had to go inside, towards the other end or rear of the store. There were more tables and chairs for us to sit and relax. The furniture, some from the nostalgic past; were spread out, as this was a large room. It was bright and the colour scheme was light. There was an old / antique sewing machine as decor nearby one of the tables.

A quick glance of this room and you can be forgiven if you may have thought this room as a children’s play area. However, when you began to absorb the view this room provides, it gives you a sense of calm, a place for a quiet chat, maybe read a book…maybe began writing or continue to write that novel that is in your mind that has yet to convert to pen and paper. I sat in a chair that reminded me of a picture that was taken of me when I was little, over 60 years ago. The chair was quite similar to that one back then. I liked it.

Jeannie lined up at the counter to make an order for an iced latte. Due to the nature of her line of work, i.e. business development in the food related industry; she makes it a point to see what the food offerings are, the display and setups of restaurants, eateries, supermarkets and stores; always on the lookout for new products and ideas.

Coffee beans on the cake. A nice touch to the presentation.

The services was good as our drink order soon arrived. It was the cue…er I mean excuse to eat the coffee cake.

First thing you will notice on the box, is the name of this bakery, “Sunbaked Daily” with what I presume is their logo: a round dark circle (the sun?), coming out from behind a cloud. It has a catchy tagline: “Batter days ahead!”. A lot of thought and effort has been put into the design, presentation and delivery of the products. Now, for the eating.

We had to use a spoon to cut through the cake and take small, dainty (?😂) bites, like civilized people do. Not like my usual self, wolf it down in a couple of big bites. Haha.

It looked good. It tasted good. I was trying to see if I could taste, sense or savor the quality ingredients that went into this cake. For sure, this cake is way above the average cake. The coffee cream or icing was the “icing on the cake”(PUN?😉). Jeannie also liked the cake.

I may not have got the fullness of the cake because of the iced latte. I had a sip of the drink before eating the cake. I think to enjoy the fullness of the cake, it should be eaten first, or at least, the first couple of bites. The iced latte (I tasted it first), was pretty standard.

The cake vanished fast. We sat at this fashion store cafe for a while longer to finish our drink before making our way back home.

Getting some ideas down on the ideaSketchpad💡

Really making ourselves at home with this nostalgic furniture.

The store ambience is pleasing. their products are spaced out for easy browsing. It makes shopping comfortable.

Nala Cafe or Nala’s store or boutique’s cafe provides just the right setting to shop, rest a bit and have a coffee or tea with some pastries. Then, continue shopping.

Out on the street, heading towards to the LRT station, you will come across a unique, sort of triangle-shaped building. It is black in colour and stands on its own without any other building in close proximity. It’s front connects both its sides with a quad-angle connection, with one side having a sort of carved design, all the way to the top. We did not check for sure, but we think that this is a hotel.

The Merdeka118. The second tallest building in the world. Using My Samsung S23 Ultra.

When we got to the platform at the LRT station, waiting for our ride (the cool-smooth train) to come; I noticed the nice view of the city surroundings. At a distant distance, stood the unusual Merdeka 118, the second tallest structure in the world. Using my Samsung S23 Ultra with its x100 times zoom capabilities; I took a fairly close up shot at about X30 something zoom (if I remember right). It was definitely the “Land of the Giants”, as every other building around it looked so insignificant. In the picture, towards the top of the building you will notice a couple of windows opened.

I zoomed in all the way at X100…absolutely mind boggling! I would have seen anybody move inside, if there was anybody there, a bit dark though. I was struggling to keep my hand steady to stay focused on the window. I had to frequently refer to the little guide grid on the S23 Ultra screen to get back to the subject of focus.

An old building, still as important as the more modern ones surrounding it.
A busy street in one of the old parts of KL. Traffic is heavy even on a holiday.

We did not have to wait too long for our ride. It was quite packed, but we still had places to sit. It was a good trip to Pasar Seni. Though we may think that everything is the same if we visit it or any other place more than once. But it isn’t.

We are a bit older. The people around us are a bit older. minor things surrounding it changes as time continues to move on. It is perhaps noticing the little things along the way. It is like taking time to smell the roses…can I say that? I just did.

What lies ahead of us? Char Kuey Teow and ka-chai-samboi (hope the spelling is right) (2) at New Nanking when we get back to USJ Taipan (4).

NOTES:
1. The whole story scene is Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Subang Jaya, is a city about 40 minutes away by road when the traffic is light.
2. Char Kuey Teow is fried noodles, a local favourite. You can add chili to spice the taste even further.
3. Ka-chai-samboi is a very refreshing lime drink, mostly cold
4. USJ Taipan is the newer city centre of Subang Jaya.

Me, in a chair somewhat similar to the one in this write up. This picture was taken over 60 years ago.
